Questions
What is an Xtream provider?
An IPTV service that gives you a server address, a username and a password for its live channels, guide, catch-up, films and series. It’s often called “Xtream Codes” or a “player API” login, and that’s what Legato signs in with. M3U playlist links aren’t supported yet.
Legato doesn’t provide, sell or recommend providers. You bring your own.
How do I sign in?
Open Legato and enter the details your provider gave you: the server address (for example http://example.com:8080, including the port), your username and your password. Legato opens on Live TV as soon as your provider accepts them; the guide fills in behind it.
Your password is kept in your device’s secure storage, never on our servers. To sign out, go to Settings → Providers and remove the provider. Signing in on a TV from your phone with a QR code is coming.
My account only allows one connection. Will Legato work?
Yes. Many accounts allow one stream at a time, and Legato is built for that: it never opens a second stream behind your back. The guide’s preview uses the stream you’re watching, and channel changes close the old stream before opening the next.
If something else is using your connection (another device or app), your provider refuses the stream. Legato tries again for a few seconds, then says your connections are in use. Stop playback on the other device and try again.
How does catch-up work?
Where your provider keeps an archive for a channel, the guide marks it with a rewind clock. On a TV, hold OK on the channel and choose Catch up to see its earlier programmes; on a computer, phone or tablet, choose a past programme in the guide. It plays from the start, and you can rewind, fast-forward, scrub, start over or go back to live.
How far back you can go, and whether a channel has catch-up at all, is up to your provider.
Which devices can I use?
- Android TV and Fire TV (recent sticks: Fire OS 7 and newer)
- Android phones and tablets
- iPhone and iPad
- Mac
- Windows and Linux (coming)
Fire TV sticks running Vega OS (such as the Fire TV Stick 4K Select) don’t run Android apps, so Legato can’t run on them. Legato is in testing: see Join the beta.
A stream stalls or won’t play. What can I do?
If it’s one channel, it’s usually the provider’s stream. Try Settings → Playback → Buffer style: Patient keeps a bigger cushion, Quick start starts sooner. Stream stats (quick actions on a TV, the I key on a computer) shows how healthy the stream is. If it keeps happening, send us a playback log.
Sending a playback log
The playback log records what played and how: channel changes, stalls, reconnects, errors and stream health. It never contains your password or full stream addresses.
- Open Settings → About → Export playback log, soon after the problem happens.
- On a Mac it saves a file to your Downloads folder. On a phone, tablet or TV it opens the share sheet: send it to yourself or straight to us.
- Email it to hello@legato.tv (or attach it to your bug report on Discord) with your device, the app version (Settings → About), roughly when it happened and what you saw.
